Last day in "Swamp land"

Today we worked on the berm leading into the step up jump and also started building the kicker. It is turning out pretty good, hope we get some dry weather for a couple of weeks so we can ride it soon...

Can not wait to get out of this sh.. :-)

Step down landing

Since we out of the mud section things start to happen a lot faster, Today James finished of the landing to the last step down before the road crossing in the new section of roller coaster.

This is how deep we have to go to get the water out. A BIG pipe is coming on Monday, it will keep the trail nice and dry when in place

Old School news

The mud pit in before the steep section in Old School was more than “bottom bracket deep” and it was about time to do something about it.

It was not possible to dig a ditch so we ended up building a bridge over it. First we had to empty it as good as possible, and then we could start building the bridge.

We also removed a couple of “flow killers” witch did not ad anything to the trail except killing the all-important flow.

We started working our way down what will be the landing for the last step-down in the new section of Roller Coaster. It will lead you straight into a berm -witch turns into a kicker at the end, sending you "up and away" to the landing of the following step-up jump. I really hope we don`t need to go back and fix something in this section anytime soon…

This step down will be the last step down in the mid-section of Roller Coaster.
About 2,5 meters high and 8 meters to the sweet spot

Needs a lot of dirt to build a trail with this size ehhh, -everything…
Everything is just bigger :-)

This creek is now going through the kicker in a big tube. Unbelievable how much water there is coming through this area.
Big ditches and enough pipes takes care of that..

Roller Coaster update

The red dot is where the Roller Coaster Air Downhill has been starting until now.
One step down, one step up and a table left to build before we connected the two sections.We now have 15 meters left before we are past the swamp in the Mid-section of Roller Coaster.

It is massive. This is the landing of the Hip/high speed corner, we are working on right now. The landing will go straight into a step down. Both the hip/corner and the step down have an 8 meter gap but will be pretty mellow to ride. The kickers are pretty slack on both of them.

The awesome weather is helping us a lot making better progress in the mid-section of Roller Coaster.
We are also past the wet area that has been causing so much trouble. This is a high speed corner/ “hip jump into a step down” combo.

World cup jumps

Finally, a week late we got the excavator so we could start building up the jumps at the start of the world cup trail (European champs trail, last year).
The UCI rep asked how we could top of last year’s event…
There is only one answer to that of course, -GO BIGGER!
So that is exactly what we are doing.
This is the last of the 4 jumps just after the start, we are pulling the lip back around 3 meters and putting it more to the side so we can leave it over the winter. That also make it more into to a hip jump…
Also the first jump will be bigger. We are moving the start house about 10 meters to north witch give us a longer run in to the jump = more speed :-)

The short but heavy rain shower on Saturday washed out the landing of the step down in Ekspressen and while we were at it we removed a lot of rocks down to the road crossing. The trail crew got some much appreciated help.

When it was done it turned out really good and we also removed some rocks in the landing on the right hand side.

These girls not only ride hard, they work hard as well :-)

Roller Coaster, mid-section.

We are now 3 weeks into this year’s building on the mid-section of Roller Coaster. (Above the road were you are dropping in today, going all the way up to Moe`town).
This is jump number seven in the making so far. This is in the worst part to build in and it is really wet and muddy, so it is taking it`s time…

All the rain has been keeping the soil nice and wet here in Hafjell.
The last day’s dry weather have made it possible for us to finally make some “real” progress. Moe`town mid-section is now fully restored and the very last section before the Parktrail will be done tonight.
Here is the second to last jump in the mid-section witch we extended the table 1,5 meter and the landing another 1,5 meter. I twill match the speed you have there, much better now :-)

After the massive rain this early morning the trail crew have been working hard getting the trails back into shape. After the enormous effort, we are proud being able to keep all the trails open this weekend.

The rain is threatening to make us close a trail that we have opened permanent, for the first time ever.
The Express trail looks more like the Grand Canyon and we are mainly checking trails for damages these days and leading water out of the trails.
Moe`town were getting it bigtime in the spring and now water was becoming a treat again. We had to redirect one of the main water pipes today. It was starting to wash out a big chunk of the trail.
It would be nice to get back to actually building some trails soon…

Back to everyday life

After the amazing opening weekend we are back to normal life here. The Buldre trail keeps getting TLC and right now it is the top section getting sorted. We have been removing “some” who did nothing for the trail but were killing skies in the winter. In the process jumps were growing and new ones popping up…

On a mission, in the Buldre trail

Even today being a holiday there were people showing up, helping out. Just awesome!
The Buldre trail, from the exrockgarden and down to the first road got a lot of attention. The table top just after the road is now also 1,5 meters longer and have less pop.
In Grass trail, the “water slide” was extended with 4 new berms, tight and tricky…. The rest of the trail was also looked after.
Råbølstien (it includes the hardest rockgarden from Europeans Camps) is also ready after a three falling down in the winter was removed and all the leaves were raked of the trail.
A beautiful day, 20 Celsius with blue sky and we really got a lot done :-)

Roller Coaster

The 4 jump in Roller coaster (lower section) was repaired today and that concludes the trail repairs after this “special” winter with all the drain pipes, freezing up with ice creating a lot of trouble for us.
Parking an 13,5 ton excavator on the top of a jump, is a good reminder why everything takes so much time with this trail…

Buldre trail

With water digging out the whole trail from the road and down to the steep section, it took some elbow grease to get the trail back into shape.
Getting a bit creative we put in a mini-double, next to the hip. The double roller before the got a bit bigger as well…

Gjørid is driving out the last branches after cleaning up the mid-section of Moe`town.
Saturday we got done with the excavator, and now we just need some sunny days to make it dry up.

The snow melting after winter was not treating our trails so well...
Moe`town got it big time and the tranny on the 4 jump in Roller Coaster got washed out. In some sections it is obvious that the winter will not give up without a fight. We already started shoveling out the last snow and on the 18th of may we will start working on the trail with the excavators. We open 4th of june

Grand Seasone Finale 2010

What a weekend. Beautiful weather. Groomed trails, smiling bikers all over!
400 riders came for this year’s “Grand Season Finale” weekend.
A new track record in both Roller Coaster Air Downhill and the Park trail chainless race. Awesome TSG Dirt session and “Today’s movie” to document it all”.
The after bike party was better than ever and went well it to the late hours…

This is newbie in the Trail Crew, Kisse. (Kristoffer Haugland) Super fast racer aswell as a super smooth dirt jumper.
He can make the rocks just pop out of the ground –just by looking at them…

We have been rebuilding the tight berms before the steep hill (that turned into a rockgarden after the last rainfalls) and the hill itself. Looks just a little bit better now.

Updates on Moe`town and the Park trail

The opening of the new section of Moe`town is getting closer and here is this week’s progress.
We pretty much only have to build two new berms and do some adjusting at the end of the existing Moe`town and we are ready for the Champaign ;-)
At the pictures above you can see the exit before it crosses the ski pist going down to the Park. The very last forest section start with a small step up and two tables.

The step section of the Park trail is also getting some well deserved attention from the trail crew. We are re-shaping the last berm and will be putting in some curves to get it a bit more fun there.

Makeover, last section of the Buldre trail

Before last weekend we wanted to repair some water damage...
One thing led to the other and we ended up rebuilding the whole section.
One new hip, one new tabeltop and two re-built jumps.
The pics are from last saturday. The rain the night before made it soggy so we closed it sunday and let it dry out this week.

Today 16 volunteers did an awesome job helping out putting up the racetape on the European and Scandinavian open trail. Blown away by the effort everybody was putting in. We also finished a couple of new berms leading in to the rock garden section (Råbølstien) of the trail.

2nd forest section done!

Today we built the new bridge to finish of the 2nd forest section og the EC trail.
It is a fast forest section with rooths and rocks but not more of it, than that you can hit it at warp speed a have a big smile on your face doing it. We are on scedule and it loks like the whole track will be ridable on saturday 17th of july.

This is the landing for the jump coming right after the start. The kicker will be were the car is. The gap will be around 6 meters and you will need to fly 8-9 meters to reach the sweet spot. The new technicall section will hopfully be rideable in the weekend.

The Råbølstien trail got a new shortcut yesterday. It is an totaly new section. It is really step, the first two corners before flattening out going into a rough rockgarden that getts steeper and steeper before you are turning left into the last part of Råbølstien. It looks superfun already.

Yesterday we started working on the EC trail. This first section is the same we used for the relay in 2009`s Days of Thunder. We gave it an make over and some new lines appeared...

Moe has left for Canada and Calgary. He is now building jumps at the COP Bike Park with a fixed bucket, lol.
You are welcome bro, it`s been a pleasure.
Sadly three riders have been “checking out” the upper section of Rollercoaster as you can see on the pics. We need to put Flakes on it and get some rain, before the trail surface get nice and hard so it can handle all the runs it will get after it opens.
Please respect this and let us finish it before you start riding it. Waste of time to redo stuff all the time.

New Moe`town, almost...

Due to a lot of groundwater, we will unfortunately -not be able to open the new section of Moe` Town before next weekend. To make it even easier for us, some riders have been “checking it out” the newest section -leaving deep tire marks.
The rest looks good but was just reshaped the last to days so it need a week of rest before we can ride it.

Today we started putting in the jumps in the new section of Moe`town. After the awesome job Moe did last year putting in pipes, it dryed out really well. We hope to open this last section in two weeks. It will ad 11 new jumps and some sweet berms, linking Moe`town and the Parktrail into 3,2 km of machine built fun!

After the awsome opening weekend with over 400 riders blasting down the trails, we are back to normal life here. Trailcrew are getting the trails back into shape and we started working on the upper part of Roller Coaster. The new section will add another 700 meters and bring the total lenght up to 1,9 km and a total of 40 jumps.

The first day was just amazing. Blue sky , groomed trails, good racing, stoked riders all over. Even "movie of the day" was done in time for the afterbike party!

Jonas from the trailcrew went up to remove the snow in the first part of Moe`town. It was alot! Looks like it is dryig up well and will be ok for tomorrow.

Everybody is working hard prepairing Hafjell for the summer opening. Also the Gondolas need some care, before they are ready :-)

Sverre knut and James have started grooming Moe`town. The snow-melting after the winter have been rough to the trail here aswell.

The new tabel top in Buldre is finaly done. You will have to jump about 6 meters to reach the sweet spot.
